BDSM BEGINNER'S LIBRARY

Many readers have asked me for a list of books that a newbie can read to educate her/himself about the BDSM lifestyle. From various loops and discussions, I've culled the ones most frequently mentioned. This list is by no means comprehensive, nor is it in any particular order, but it gives interested "vanilla" folks a place to start.

All of these books are available on Amazon (and no, I don't get paid for the plug).

Happy reading!

~ BDSM: The Naked Truth - by Dr. Charley Ferrer

~ Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns - by Philip Miller and Molly Devon

~ SM-101: A Realistic Introduction - by Jay Wiseman

~ The Loving Dominant - by John Warren and Libby Warren

~ The Topping Book, Or Getting Good at Being Bad AND The New Topping Book - by Dossie Easton, Catherine A. Liszt and Fish

~ The New Bottoming Book - by Dossie Easton and Janet W. Hardy

~ The Devil In the Details (3 volumes) - by LTMorrison:
Volume I - "The Master" "The Slave" "The Power"
Volume II "Mastery Refined: The Skills - The Issues"
Volume III "Sustaining Structure - Training"

~ The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage - by Midori and Craig Morey

~ The Leatherman's Handbook AND the revised edition, Leatherman's Handbook II (both of which command in the hundred-dollar range on Amazon) - by Larry Townsend

~ Dominatrix: A Memoir: the Making of Mistress Chloe - by Claire Mansfield

~ Ties That Bind: The SM/Leather/Fetish Erotic Style: Issues, Commentaries and Advice - by Guy Baldwin

~ When Someone You Love Is Kinky - by Dossie Easton and Catherine A. Liszt

~ Extreme Space: The Domination and Submission Handbook - by F.R.R. Mallory

These are all non-fiction books. Of course, no BDSM library would be complete without such classics as The Story of O by Pauline Reage or Justine by the Marquis deSade. Or the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by A.N. Roquelaure (pseudonym of Anne Rice when it was first published). Please feel free to add your own favorite BDSM book in the comments section.

  1. A great list, Cris and yes, certainly there are lots more especially when you get into certain fetishes. Another overall book I'd recommend is A Different Loving by Gloria Brame, and the entire Toybox series from Greenery Press (check out "Dungeon Emergencies and Supplies", for example!)
