Have you
heard about the BDSM Writers Conference to be hosted by world-renowned
sexologist Dr. Charley Ferrer? It features keynote speaker and award-winning
BDSM author Joey W. Hill and three full days of workshops. It will be held at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York
City August 21-24, 2014 and it’s going to knock your socks off.
Yes, it’s
billed as a writers’ conference. Yes, there are many workshops geared to
writing. Yes, over two dozen BDSM authors will be signing their books at the
Book Signing.
But if
you’re a reader, if you’re someone who’s curious about the BDSM lifestyle, if
you’re too intimidated to go to a “dungeon” or even a “munch”, this conference
is a safe, easy way to see a whole raft of live demonstrations by lifestyle
practitioners.

Bo Blaze will teach some basic “101
techniques” on floggers, whips, canes, paddles and other implements of erotic torture.
Learn basic safety tips including, “where to hit” and more importantly “where
not to hit” on your submissive’s body to ensure safe play and erotic delights. Bestselling
author of the book “50 Shades of Curious”, Bo is the winner of the 2011
Pantheon of Leather President’s Award and has helped thousands learn to
practice Safe, Sane & Consensual BDSM over the last 10 years, as Novice
Group Facilitator & Board Member Emeritus, for The Eulenspiegel Society
(TES), the oldest & largest BDSM support and education group in the Country.
Cassandra Park
discusses one of the more ubiquitous types of play in the BDSM world: spanking.
It’s a type of play that’s practically mainstream—television shows like Weeds
and The Big Bang Theory have featured spanking scenes, and in the 2002 movie
Secretary the title character is spanked by her boss. But as widespread as this
type of play is, there’s no one way of doing it, and there’s no one type of
“spanko.” Sometimes it’s foreplay before sex; sometimes it’s discipline with no
sex at all. Cassandra will talk about the reasons people like to spank or be
spanked, common fantasies shared by spankos, and implements typically used in
spanking and discipline play. An editor and writer (erotic and mainstream), she
has been in the BDSM lifestyle for more than 25 years.
Mistress Eve will explain and demonstrate erotic
fire play. Fire play is considered one of the most dangerous and edgier
activities performed in BDSM interactions as fire has a life of its own and
makes its own demands. You will discover how it feels, what it looks like and
be able to experience it for yourself—if you’re brave enough. This live demo
will be performed at the BDSM Club for safety reasons.

NauttiBoy will introduce you to the art of erotic
knife play. Whether you’re novice or experienced, he will show you how to
incorporate knives into your scenes using knives solely or as a tool to elicit
the desired response. He will also discuss the care and cleaning of your blades
both in and out of the dungeon, safety tips to minimize risk to you and your
partner, as well as aspects of the law you need to know. This expert has
presented at TES, the IronBell Academy, Albany Power Exchange, The Floating
World 2012, Brimstone III & IV and WinterFire 2014.
Traveling Fool and Mary Ann hold a special place in my heart, as they introduced me to
the Violet
Wand at the very first BDSM Writers Workshop Weekend held in 2012 (read
about my experience here, which happens to be my most visited blog).
Dr.
Charley writes on the Conference website, “Traveling Fool & Maryann have
graciously provided their services and expertise at every BDSM Writers event I
have conducted. It’s our pleasure to have them teach another LIVE Demo for BDSM
WRITERS CON. I’ve seen no one with more knowledge of the Violet Wand, who blends
the sensual and sadistic aspects of electricity so beautifully, than Traveling
Fool and Maryann. Discover for yourself this amazing erotic play and learn
which one of them is the Sensual Sadist and which one is the Playful Sadist.”
Okay, it’s Cris speaking again: when Traveling Fool asks if anyone wants to try the Violet Wand, TRY IT! In fact, try any of the techniques you’ll be seeing at the workshops to see what floats your boat. It may open a new world for you.
So. What
are you waiting for? Sign up for the BDSM Writers Con 2014. And do check out
all the authors who will be giving workshops (myself included) and/or offering
their books for sale at the Book Signing on Sunday.

To anyone contemplating this marvelous event, I urge you to go go go! As a writer I still got a huge amount of insight into the BDSM lifestyle. It was fascinating for someone interested, and educational for those who are skeptical. And I haven't laughed so hard for 3 days in years! See you all there! And Cris is right - you've got to see the Traveling Fool and Maryann! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to go again Cris! Thanks for posting this. I planned to do the same next month, you beat me to it. ;) The workshops are going to be great!!!
ReplyDeleteLise and Gray, can't wait to see you at the Con. I've learned so much each time I've gone. Doctor Charley is a terrific teacher, and I look forward to all the speakers.
ReplyDeleteI had the best BEST time with Dr. Charley in San Antonio. Just like me to jump into the most dangerous play- fire play but when Dr. Charley offers to drop the flames across your body, who's to say no?? I'm dying to see it more and would love to go. I'm also very excited to see the knife play. Just so much to see and do!
ReplyDeleteCris, this sounds like a fantastic event!
ReplyDeleteI emailed you with questions :)
This sounds like a lot of fun...I'm definitely considering it.
ReplyDeleteMelissa, Tessie and Amber, as someone who's been to the first two cons Dr. Charley held, I can say without reservation that for a writer who wants to write about BDSM, this con is without parallel. Do your career a favor and sign up!
ReplyDeleteCris
I had the best time when I went and everyone was wonderful! I learned so much and it has greatly enhanced my BDSM novels. Plus the trip was a blast. GO! if you're thinking about it. Cris take lots of notes. I want to hear all the details. Wish I could make it this year.
ReplyDeleteCris,
ReplyDeleteIt’s always wonderful to read your blogs. They’re so informative. And I will add, complimentary. Thank you. I remember the first conference you attended when BDSM Writers Con was called BDSM for Writers 3-Day Intensive, you told me you’d taken 120 pages of notes. When you returned the following year, you asked if “you’d learn anything new” and approximately 80 pages later, I definitely you did. Now, for your third year, you’re actually teaching at the conference. That makes me SO VERY PROUD OF YOU! You’ve come a long way in your understanding of the BDSM lifestyle. You constantly display the caliber of author that’s dedicated to her craft and most of all her readers; you’re definitely among my favorite author’s for that alone.
@Lisa: (SLeeeza) as you taught me to remember the pronunciation of your name (smiles) it was wonderful to have you at the conference last year. Can’t wait to see you again! We did have so many laughs and that was just in the workshops; imagine what fun we’ll have at the workshops and the dungeon this year.
@Gray: I look forward to reading your upcoming blog. Please ensure to let me know and I’ll add it to our weekly newsletter. It’s always a pleasure reading your words.
@Melissa – Hey Firebaby! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll be at BDSM Writers Con in August. And when you see Nauttiboy play with Steel, you’ll learn why I call him, “My Pirate”. Not to mention, he’s just so gorgeous to look at. There’s a picture of him up on the website. I’ve added the link here for you to see him. Hubba hubba. Not to worry, when he teaches you about playing with knifes (whether to write your stories or to experience in your relationships) he’s not showing you how to “cut” but how to mix sensations both physical and mental together to make an amazing scene. Well, ok, you do learn to leave a few marks here and there as well. But, you’ll have to see it for yourself. http://bdsmwriterscon.com/workshops-2/sensual-steel
@Tessie & Amber – it would be great to meet you both. As Cris mentioned, BDSM Writers Con is NOT just for writers it’s for everyone interested in exploring the world of Dominance and submission as well as writing about it. I look at the name as “BDSM WRITERS” –in the sense that I’ve brought together writers in the D/s genre whom readers can hang out with, learn from, and explore the possibilities with. Plus, of course, learning and educating both readers and writers about the lifestyle—what it is and isn’t or as my book is called--BDSM The NAKED Truth.
@Kathy – I’ll miss seeing you this year. We’ll ensure to have you join us next year.
In honor Cris and all her awesome work in spreading the word, I’m offering her fans a $50 discount to the conference if you sign up before April 15. Use coupon code at checkout: FANS
